Remix Culture is an in-depth summer course for international professionals and students active in the fields of arts and media education. This intensive six-day course focuses on the interdisciplinary possibilities that audio-visual media offer for art and media education. Media contents, techniques, knowledge sharing, means of expression and representation are constantly blended and remixed in our modern society. Remix Culture offers arts and media educators new contents and didactics inspired by the contemporary media practices of professional artists and media-savvy youngsters. The course will consist of formal lectures by inspiring experts, work and discussion seminars and field trips to contemporary art/media institutes in Amsterdam.

Target group

*Teachers in the arts (fine art, music, theatre, dance, design) or media (media-education, informatics)
*Master students in arts- or media-education with part time jobs as a teacher;
*Teachers in languages and social studies with experience in art/media education.

Course aim

Participants learn to:
*investigate and discuss ‘remixing’ and collaborative developments in contemporary arts, media and art education and apply them in new teaching materials;
*analyse and select relevant contemporary art and media works for educational use;
*apply forms of creative ‘easyware’ information technologies to their teaching practice;
*design interdisciplinary education material in cooperation with peers from other (arts)disciplines;
*build a professional network with international peers active in different forms of art and media education.

2 ECTS
Certificate of Attendance.
1 ects extra for participants who take part in the additional research project.

Fee info

The course fee amounts to €785. This includes: All lectures, workshops and fieldtrips; Daily lunches (soup, bread, fruit, warm snack, juice, milk); Unlimited coffee & tea; Opening dinner on the first day; Use of AHK facilities like internet via WiFi, printers, beamers and audio-visual equipment. Not included: travel and accommodation.
