Course contents


This courses studies in great depth particular aspects of the political system of the European Union and policies and the methodology of European studies. Topics may vary from year to year according to current developments in and scholarly discussions on the European Union, but are likely to include the European Union enlargement, external relations and Norway’s relationship with the EU.

Target group

Applicants must have a BA in a relevant field of study such as social sciences, economics and law, or an equivalent background consisting of 180 ECTS.

Learning outcomes


Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to


•demonstrate familiarity of the current challenges confronting the EU and its Member States
•describe and assess core aspects and future challenges of European integration and the European Union
•understand political processes of the European Union’s institutions and policies studied in this course
•analyse conflicting interests and developments underwriting current issues of the European Union
•critically assess the perspectives for future development of the European Union
