Being Human: Becoming a Person in the Spirit and Work of Edith Stein

when 25 August 2024 - 31 August 2024
language German
duration 1 week
fee EUR 300

The Summer Academy will cover the following topics:

Being human - with body and soul. Basic questions of human life with Edith Stein
What is the human good for? Suggestions for personal development from Christian virtue ethics
A friendship that transforms. Inner prayer and "humanisation".
Human conditionality and freedom - Hannah Arendt and Edith Stein
Theology meets technology. Expertise for change: resilience and empathy

Edith Stein devotes herself intensively to the study of the person and the human being. We will therefore not only deal with Edith Stein's works, but rather, like her and in her spirit, ask ourselves the fundamental question of man and the person from a biblical, theological, philosophical, anthropological and spiritual perspective.

Course leader

Mag.a Daniela Köder (Vienna)
P. Dr. Roberto Maria Pirastu OCD (Rome)
P. Dr. Lukasz Strzyz-Steinert OCD (Rome)

The summer academy will be held in German and is primarily aimed at students, young researchers or anyone (up to the age of 35) who has an inquisitive mind (not only in philosophy and theology). It is aimed at people under 35, but we will consider all applications (although, due to the restricted capacity, preference will be given to those in the target group).

Course aim

The course aims to develop both an academic understanding of the topic of freedom and also the spiritual significance of the human being and personhood.
