Furnishing the Landscape: Architectural Summer Camp

when 24 June 2024 - 28 June 2024
language English
duration 1 week
fee GBP 60

he Japan Study Program is a unique design research platform that interlinks three workshops across geographical and contextual distances: the post-agricultural community in Koshirakura, the contemporary urban/suburban life styles of Tokyo, and the fabrication facilities situated at the woodlands of Hooke Park and in ICI Lab.

This workshop will take place at Hooke Park, the AA's woodland campus in Dorset. Building on a series of material fabrication experiments, participants will work solely with locally-harvested timber and clay to emphasise the opportunities offered by the mixed use of digital and analogue fabrication techniques. Our aim is that these collective efforts to reimagine the present environment by revisiting older and more traditional ideas will help to coalesce the combined notions of industry and craft, multiple and bespoke, and poetic and practical. We will seek to playfully explore and materialise artefacts to lay over the woodland's current topography. The programme will contribute to the outdoor dining area at the heart of Hooke Park.
