Each European country has its own cultures, religions, traditions and languages. Despite this rich and enduring cultural diversity, European countries have for decades been engaged in a joint supranational project aimed at political and economic integration within the European Union. This course aims to introduce students to the foundations of this European project. Students will discuss the history, culture and religion of Europe, the institutional structure of the European Union, the various stages of European integration, transatlantic relations, and the development of a shared foreign policy and development aid. The programme includes full day excursions to Brussels and The Hague

Target group

The programme is especially designed for students coming from Fudan University. The course has a focus on the humanities and social sciences

Course aim

The aim of this course is to introduce the participants to the social and cultural aspects of the nations within the European Community. The course will study both the development towards a united Europe and the enduring diversity of national cultures and identities within Europe.
