Social Work and Social Policy Issues in Estonia
This module consists of lectures on various issues related to social work in Estonia and abroad. Additionally, we will organise workshops to allow students to get involved in a specific subject area such as child and youth welfare, the welfare of the elderly or the welfare of people with special needs. Workshops include presentations given by academics as well as by professionals from the social services.
The course includes a field trip to an institution involved in some aspect of social work. Participants will be given the opportunity to visit a children’s home, an old people’s home, a rehabilitation centre, an institution for persons with special needs, etc. Students will also have the chance to acquaint themselves with Estonia and our national culture. Additionally, participants will visit Pärnu, Estonia’s so-called summer capital, where they will learn about social work in the town.

The summer course’s objective is to support international collaboration in the field of social work and social studies in Estonia. By inviting speakers and students from partner universities, we hope to create the opportunity to gain and exchange valuable international experience, an essential tool for the contemporary social worker. An opportunity to study within a multicultural environment is one of the most important goals of our summer course.
