Coventry University is offering a limited number of people the opportunity to come and see how the UK healthcare system works and work alongside our highly qualified healthcare professionals at the University and with our NHS partners. We will be providing you with practical experiences of specialist healthcare settings, access to our excellent learning facilities and expert teaching staff.

Our summer school offers a fantastic opportunity for you to gain insight into University life at Coventry and to experience first-hand what it is to be a university student whilst engaging with our innovative programme.

Whether you are studying to be a healthcare professional or a recent graduate, exploring study abroad or just want to expand your horizons this exciting programme is designed for you. This is an ideal opportunity for you to showcase this experience in your CV and take the knowledge that you gain at the summer school with you to any future recruitment process. Alternatively, this could be a chance for you to learn about the UK healthcare system and explore differences in healthcare systems and models across the globe. You will gain valuable experience to enhance your own practice and to share with friends, family and other professionals on your return home.

The School of Health is nationally recognised for the high quality of its provision of pre-registration and post-qualifying professional courses in nursing, midwifery, paramedic science, operating department practice, clinical psychology, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and dietetics. We have strong partnerships with our NHS partners, local authority services, and independent, voluntary health and social care organisations.

Our current facilities include:

•A real ambulance, which students are able to use as part of their studies.
•Our very own crime scene room, to investigate a variety of criminal evidence, complete with fingerprinting equipment.
•A purpose-built Clinical Skills and Simulation Centre, which allows for improved quality in patient care and patient safety.
•A mock operating theatre, including scrub sinks and theatre lights, and a mock hospital ward so we can study a complete patient pathway.
•Specific laboratory areas for Psychology; Physiotherapy; Biological Sciences; Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Course leader


Target group

We are looking for students who want to experience what it is like working in our healthcare system. You may be currently studying to become a healthcare professional or on a health related programme. Your aim will be to understand how the UK healthcare system works and get hands on experience of working alongside registered healthcare practitioners. All participants must be aged 18 or above at the start of this programme.

Course aim

The summer school explores concepts that underpin the UK healthcare system. It will give you an insight into the role of health professionals in practice and on completion of the summer school you will be able to:
•Recognise the key features of the UK healthcare system
•Identify how the best practice you have experienced could be used within your country
•Reflect on models of healthcare and how this can be used to innovate healthcare practice
