Norwegian Life and Society
Topics covered include Norwegian history, political system, welfare state, economy, environmental issues, women’s position and the family, literature, visual arts, culture and identity.
Lectures are open to all ISS students. They are free of charge, and no formal application or registration is required. Students intending to sit the exam must, however, register for the exam towards the end of the course. Exam candidates are advised that the exam questions are based on the lectures and set readings. The course is recommended especially for participants who are planning on living and working in Norway.
The course provides an introduction to and an overview of Norwegian culture and society in a historical and contemporary perspective.
Final three-hour written classroom examination, consisting of short answer questions, and an essay. Grading based on the ECTS grading system A-B-C-D-E-F.
