Street photography is a serious challenge to any photographer. The discipline to make sense of a chaotic urban scene defines the mark of an observationally aware, astute and creative mind. Photographers working on the street need to respond intuitively to spontaneous moments and confront diverse issues in the public space from composition and light to ethics of privacy.
During this workshop participants will be lectured on the history of street photography, with an emphasis on different approaches by key photographers in this field from the traditional to more conceptual concerns in contemporary practice.

Participants will respond to an assignment to be completed at the end of the workshop during which time the importance of technique, visual continuity, editing and narrative will be the main focus. The aim is for participants to have a greater confidence to engage in the public space and develop a strong visual identity, essential for any photographer.
