The European Summer Course 2017 "A Continent in Troubled Times – EU's Perspectives in a Changing World" will take place from 16-27 August 2017 at the Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen. It is organized by the Europa-Institut in cooperation with the ASKO EUROPA-STIFTUNG, the Europäische Akademie Otzenhausen and the Centre international de formation européenne (Cife). It is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This year's summer course will deal with:

-Milestones of European integration
-Institutional set-up and decision-making in the EU
-Human rights protection in Europe
-We can (or can’t) do it – The EU on the way to a common European asylum policy?
-Brexit, populism etc. – De-integration or more Europe as an answer to the current crisis of European integration
-How to create prosperity, stability and security in a crisis-ridden neighbourhood?
-Chances and limits of EU’s enlargement and neighbourhood policy
-After the crisis is before the crisis? The Economic and Monetary Union in 2017
-The EU as a Trade Power

Young, active and open-minded people (esp. students | young professionals) from all fields of studies and from all over the world, who have a strong interest in the European Union and its current challenges

Course aim

Facing the rise of populist parties in many member states, crises in its unstable neighbourhood or the British Brexit-vote – The European Union is under pressure. The European Summer Course „A Continent in Troubled Times – EU‘s Perspectives in a Changing World“ deals with fundamental aspects of European integration and discusses important policy fields and current developements in the European Union.

Credits info

2.5 EC
In order to gain 2.5 Credit Points, participants need to attend the European Summer Course and hand in a written paper.

Fee info

EUR 950: The participation fee includes programme fee, field trips (to Brussels, Strasbourg, Saarbrücken), full board (all meals) and lodging (accommodation in twin rooms at the European Academy of Otzenhausen; single rooms are possible). It does not cover travel expenses to / from Otzenhausen.
