Summer Research School “Modern Technologies for Construction Industry”

when 14 July 2018 - 28 July 2018
language English
duration 2 weeks
credits 2 EC
fee EUR 500

We offer tailored educational summer research project in state-of-the-art laboratories at the leading civil engineering university in Russia. Summer research project comes with lectures on relevant topics of civil engineering studies as well as technical tour to specialized enterprises and construction projects.

Participants can pick one out of three modules:

“FRP reinforcement in reinforced concrete members” - this module gives an excellent exposure on the application of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcement and its properties in new construction and rehabilitation. The aim of the module is to train participants with specific knowledge and skills, allowing them to consider and apply FRP reinforcement.
Program of the module will focus on the next topics:
1. FRP reinforcement for RC structures
2. FRP materials for strengthening and rehabilitation of structures
3. Testing of FRP reinforcement and materials
4. Testing of concrete specimens (beams, columns) reinforced with FRP materials.

“Architectural and construction aerodynamics” - the main tasks of modern architectural and constructional aerodynamics are to research wind impact on unique and high-rise buildings and structures, and on a large span bridge structures, as well as research of the aeration and aerodynamic comfort of urban areas and industrial complexes.
Program of the module will focus on the next topics:
1.Architectural and construction aerodynamics fundamentals. Wind tunnels, MGSU’s own Large Gradient Wind Tunnel.
2.Tasks, features and stages of wind and snow impact experimental modeling on various types of building structures.
3.The numerical modeling main goals and tasks of wind impact on buildings and structures. Numerical simulation results verification.
4.Calculation the wind and snow loads impact on buildings and structures, taking into account the numerical and experimental modeling results.

«Inspection and monitoring of buildings and structures» - Monitoring is a process of implementing a damage detection that can be defined as changes of the geometric properties of a structural system, changes to the boundary conditions etc. which adversely affect the structure.
Program of the module will focus on the next topics:
1.Theoretical bases of inspection and monitoring of building structures, organization of a Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) system.
2.Real time monitoring of the object model (using Trimble total station, SHM system based on strain gauges and data acquisition equipment (National instruments)
3.Nondestructive testing methods for defect detection (using ultrasonic tomography MIRA A1040).
