Design: The World Around Us (JULY)

when 23 July 2018 - 28 July 2018
language English
duration 1 week
credits 5 EC
fee EUR 950

This course focusses on understanding the role of design in relation to the built environment. In order to do this, it examines design as a broad topic: we are not interested in chairs, tables, and coffee cups. Design as field impacts all of us—at every moment of the day and across multiple scales. By exploring its relationship to architecture and urbanism, we aim to reveal its enduring relevance.

The course is a combination of design theory and the significance of design at all scales, and what it means for our daily life. Further it explores colour theory, including myths and truths about the perception of colours. Visits include the iconic design sights such as the Olivetti Showroom and Orsoni Colour Library and meetings at local design studios.

If you wish to stay longer, this course can be combined with Venice Architecture Biennale or Contemporary Architecture courses at the Academy.

The courses take place in historic venetian palazzos and are done in cooperation with the European Cultural Centre, known as the second largest cultural venue in Venice after the Biennale.

Beyond the classroom immerse yourself in creative and cultural activities or relax at famous Lido beach. Leveraging our 15-year experience of working in this incredible city, we will guide you to its most alluring locations. For anybody who wishes to explore Italy, Florence, Siena and Milan are within proximity.
