ISS2018 aims to bring students together, for a period of 5 days, to show, work in team and discuss on exploring challenges and opportunities in an increasingly relevant thematic area such as urban mobility. The main objectives of 5th ISS2018 can be summarized as follows:
• demonstrate the importance of sustainability concept related to transport system and the development of urban infrastructure
• increase the research in terms of road safety and vulnerable users
• promote eco-mobility and Public Transport System

Target group

The Summer school is open to 20 among master student, PhD student, PhD and post-doc researcher, selected on a merit basis, and will be activated if the minimum number of 15 participants is reached.
The research activities of all participants must be linked to the topic of transportation systems engineering and road infrastructures including urban mobility, road safety, eco-mobility, etc.

Course aim

ISS2018 contains focus-lectures of academics and practitioners, research projects, field work and other events. The aim is to provide a wide vision of the research activities in the field of traffic and transportation engineering in order to broaden the competence of participants towards more inter-disciplinary subjects and topics.
During the week, students will be confronted with involved stakeholders to consider the urban road sustainability and relevance of their ideas. The accent will be on key issues related to innovative ideas and technologies. The applied approach is based on the following pillars:
• a balanced combination of Theory and Practice;
• combination of lectures with practical tutorials, mentoring, study visits, and teamwork
• social events to identify project ideas.
In particular Teaching activities linked to ISS2018 will be divided into 4 sessions with lectures given by professors and a poster session for each session useful for demonstrating the works pursued by the participants. The specific poster session will be organized for master students.

Fee info

EUR 400: It Includes the cost of food and beverage, accommodation and the transfer from Palermo Airport to Palermo central station by bus A/R. Flight ticket cost is not included.
