Advanced Strategic Management
Advanced strategic management provides the direction and guidance modern corporations need in order to prosper in a dynamically connected world. This seminar will cover several conditions facing modern corporations such as volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity (VUCA) and use the analysis as a backdrop for strategic thinking and action. It will also address strategic decision making and its bias problems stemming from the built-in flaws of human reasoning as well as provide insights when it comes to mitigating them. The formation of actual corporate strategies which rely on static models for analyzing industry and competition is deemed nowadays insufficient. Instead, strategizing needs to be informed by knowledge referring to industry disruption and the way it links to patterns of competitive action among different types of stakeholders. In this context, strategic responses need to encompass strategic innovation and fulfill new quality criteria such as strategic agility, robustness and resilience. This seminar will provide an introduction to these concepts and outline tools needed to form effective strategy in the modern world.
