How the media can influence people is one of the most studied areas in psychology. In this seminar, we will look at a broad range of effects of media on children and adolescents, including how advertising influences people without their conscious awareness, the benefits of educational and prosocial media, the five dimensions of video game effects, media violence, how the brain learns, video game "addiction," and several other topics. We will also examine what we can do to maximize the benefits while minimizing the potential harms.
