Our Electronic Engineering Summer School offers advanced undergraduates and recent graduates the opportunity to develop their knowledge of electronic engineering and gain first-hand experience of laboratory work and industrial application.

You will be able to work with world-leading research and academic staff from in the School of Engineering's high-quality facilities, located in the multi-million-pound Queen’s Buildings complex.

You will also have the opportunity to take part in a workshop with National Instruments, the global leader in test, measurement and control solutions.

In addition to a fantastic learning experience, our Summer School includes accommodation in the centre of the city, two cultural trips in cities across the UK and entertaining social events in our vibrant Welsh capital. Our Summer School will give you the chance to immerse yourself in the British culture and travel the UK with new friends from all across the world.

Target group

Undergraduate students, recent graduates or those with relevant work experience (18 years old and above).

Course aim

To give a comprehensive overview of the key themes and theories around Electronic Engineering.

Examples of topics covered:
- Mobile communications
- Interdisciplinary uses of microwave sensors and actuators
- Mobile base station power amplifiers
- Information theory, encoding and networks
- The development of active harmonic load-pull and the development of RFPAs
- RF I-V waveform measurement and engineering

Credits info

Students are usually able to obtain credits from your home institution. If you intend to claim credits from their home university after attending one of our summer schools, please make sure you ask your University about their requirements before you enrol with us. The decision to award credits rests with your home institution. Informal assessments will vary for each course but all participants will be provided with a certificate of attendance. Fee info

GBP 1995: (2 week course). This course fee includes tuition fees, breakfast and lunch (Monday-Friday), airport pick-up and drop off from Heathrow Airport (on specified dates), excursions organised by Cardiff University and accommodation.
