Product Noise & Sound Design
Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this program has been cancelled for 2020. Please check our website for the new TU Berlin Summer University Online program.
The course covers the fundamentals and typical applications of acoustics, such as product noise control and sound quality, room acoustics, and psychoacoustics. It is conceptualized as an introductory course to engineering acoustics, providing an overview of the most common theoretical and experimental methods with the special emphasis on practical work and acoustic measurements. The students will have an opportunity to work in a well-equipped acoustic laboratory and to be actively involved in the measurements. In the end of the course, the students will be encouraged to implement the obtained skills by working on a small acoustic project and documenting it in a report.

Target group
The target group includes current university students who have completed at least one year of their studies (Bachelor's, Master's or PhD level). Working professionals with equivalent work experience are also welcome to apply. Understanding of basic calculus is recommended.
Course aim
The students will learn the concepts of general acoustics, as well as common methods for
- machinery and vehicle noise control,
- product sound quality and sound design,
- room acoustics and sound insulation,
- psychoacoustics,
- effects of noise on humans' health.
After familiarizing themselves with the basic acoustic quantities, the students will collect experience in engineering acoustics and psychoacoustics through the guided exercises and their own work in the acoustic laboratory
