Aalto University Summer School on Transportation (ASTRA) offers innovative and practical approaches to understand and solve timely transport problems in both developed and developing countries. The school presents an intensive learning experience for transport professionals and graduate students of varying backgrounds.

Towards Integrated, Customized and Automated Mobility Futures?

The theme of the 14th Aalto University Summer School on Transportation emphasizes value-driven approach in re-imagining our future urban mobility systems, while taking into account larger societal trends of automation and digitalization. Underlying Nordic values such as social justice, citizen well-being, and trust in institutions, the focus will be on emerging mobility technologies and services. Activities during summer school include lectures, workshops and a site visit, focused on various aspects of planning and policy, including technological trends and variety of quantitative and qualitative methods.

Our lecturers include renowned experts from Aalto University, as well as universities around the world. This year, Summer School will be integrated with EIT Urban Mobility Master School, as well as with COST Action 16222 focusing on the Wider Impacts and Scenario Evaluation of Autonomous and Connected Transport (WISE-ACT). Through this collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, attendees will travel to Stockholm, Sweden, as part of the site visit activities.

Expected audience

The Summer School is intended for transportation professionals, managers in transport agencies, transport and traffic engineers, planners, transport consultants, citizen advocates, educators, and advanced graduate students in their master's or doctoral studies. Expected class size is 40. In the past, the participants were from countries across the world.

The 2020 Summer School will take place August 24 – September 4 on the famous Otaniemi campus of Aalto University in Espoo, Finland.

The attendees may earn study credits in the Aalto University School of Engineering (2-3 ECTS credits).

EUR 700: The registration fee of EUR 700 includes course material and banquet. After April 30th, the fee is EUR 900. Registration is open until June 15th.

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships for the registration fee is available for master and doctoral students enrolled at a university at the time of application. The scholarship does not cover accommodation and travel costs.
