Austrian Arbitration Academy (winter)
online courseThe Academy’s winter program Arbitration Rules in Practice is an innovative online program on international commercial arbitration. Jointly organized by the Vienna International Arbitral Centre, the Young Austrian Arbitration Practitioners, the Austrian Arbitration Association and the Sommerhochschule of the University of Vienna, this program has been specifically devised for participants with prior experience in the area of international arbitration.
It addresses the following groups of participants:
young practitioners (in particular junior associates/RechtsanwaltsanwärterInnen) working in the field of dispute resolution
graduate students specializing in arbitration
Professor Paul Oberhammer (Vienna/London/St. Gallen) acts as academic director of the Austrian Arbitration Academy, while Dr. Alice Fremuth-Wolf co-directs the Arbitration Rules in Practice program representing the VIAC.
The sessions will be taught by renowned international arbitration practitioners from both the bar and academia.
The program consists of four afternoon sessions as well as online participation on the Vienna Arbitration Day, Austria’s largest arbitration conference.
All sessions will be conducted online and will be accessible to all registered participants for a 24-hour time frame.
In addition, participants have the option of attending the last session at the Vienna International Arbitral Centre in person. For all those who cannot participate in person, the session will be accessible online.

Target group
It addresses young practitioners (in particular junior associates) working in the field of dispute resolution and graduate students specializing in arbitration.
This program has been specifically devised for participants with prior experience in the area of international arbitration.
Course aim
The sessions will mirror the structure of an (administered) arbitration and will address salient issues of international arbitration, in particular problems that might be encountered frequently in practice.
Throughout the course, the focus will lie on institutional arbitration proceedings. The last session will consist of a mock organizational hearing. For successful completion of the course, participants will thereafter be asked to draft a Procedural Order No 1.

Successful participants will receive the University of Vienna/ Austrian Arbitration Academy/VIAC practice diploma.
Fee info
EUR 400: The Austrian Arbitration Academy Winter Program - Arbitration Rules in Practice fee amounts to € 400 and includes registration, online access to the teaching material, four online sessions as well as participation in the Vienna Arbitration Day.
For those who join the last session in person, lunch and coffee will be included.
