As an advanced training in qualitative and legal methods in criminology, the course aims to be a platform for PhD students preparing or conducting their criminological fieldwork, to discuss the methodological challenges within their research projects. The emphasis will be on 'doing research': candidates will be supervised on small assignments linked to their own PhD research projects. Previous knowledge on qualitative method is required.

Target group

The course is open for PhD candidates from various disciplines (law, social sciences, humanities) conducting criminological research. Participants should have previous knowledge in qualitative methods.

Course aim

After this course, PhD candidates will be able to:

a) make choices, apply and critically reflect on various qualitative and legal research methods useful for their research projects;
b) analyse and report qualitative data obtained using those methods.
