Sports Journalism for Beginners
Explore the exciting world of sports journalism in Nottingham, home of Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, the Panthers Ice Hockey Team, the National Water Sports Centre, and the official City of Football for the UK.
Where better to learn this craft?
This course will introduce you to writing scripts for multimedia, including match reports and sports features.
You will learn interview techniques in the studio and on location, and see first-hand how a sports journalist works whilst visiting key venues in Nottingham.
You will gain a good understanding of how to construct a multimedia sports story, be able to demonstrate the practical skills relevant to sports journalism, and be able to work effectively as part of a news team.
Course leader
Stephen Thirkill is a professional sports journalist for a variety of local news outlets, as well as being an experienced lecturer.

No experience is required.
Course aim
By the end of this course, you’ll have an excellent understanding of how to plan, design and execute a piece of sports journalism, and have a clear idea of what editors are looking for from their reporters.

GBP 395: This fee covers the course delivery, most materials and any related course travel and entry tickets.
GBP 165: On-campus accommodation for one week in a single room with private bathroom facilities and shared kitchen and living space.
