Added Value from Data in the Context of Mining, Construction, and Raw Materials
blended courseThe purpose of this seminar is to introduce the concepts and methods required to create added value from data in the context of mining, construction and raw materials. The implementation of digital-twins for heavy plant and machinery requires the complete vertical integration of data: starting with the acquisition of real-time machine data, through its ingestion into a structured data-centric analysis system, the generic calculation of key performance indicators, through to the application of hybrid machine learning to the data. The correct structured handling of metadata is addressed, since it is essential when adding meaning to time-series data. The aim is to create added-value from data, via the discovery of knowledge in the data and the creation of understanding via models. The seminar will focus on the required concepts, methods and patterns. Different business models are presented for the creation of added value from data, with the aim of providing economic justification for the investment in such technologies. A series of current applications we have developed are presented as demonstrators. They show: a) the use of GPS referenced time series data to predict subsurface properties during drilling for heavy construction and to verify the quality of the produced elements; b) the use of digital twins for bulk handling materials in mining, leading to the improvement of performance and sustainability.
