Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Mutual Funds
The initial part of the course will introduce the students to topics relevant to all three types of pooled invetsments; OEFs, CEFs and ETF. Especially, topics related to performance evaluation, active and passive portfolio management and the regulatory environment of the pooled investment business.
In the second part of the course will focus on OEFs and CEFs, especially the empirical evidence on performance and closet indexing. Key strategic issues facing a fund sponsor will be examined through the HBS case related to Vanguard funds.
The final part of the course will focus on ETF structure, and empirical research on performance and regulation.
Through the written part of the course studenst will provide a analysts report on a OEF or ETF of choice and in the course paper, a in-depth report on a topic fo choice.
