Gender Representations in Literature and Culture
The course will deal with artistic representations of gender in modern Western literature and culture. The aim is to give students insight into the theories and methods of gender studies in literaterary and cultural studies on the one hand, and to familiarize them with representations of gender in literary texts and other arts on the other. We also plan to cooperate with the Køn-Gender Museum Aarhus and the Aros Art Museum. We will explore themes such as femininity and masculinity, queerness, sexuality and intersectionality and read texts by Virginia Woolf, Brigid Brophy, Bernadine Evaristo, Thomas Mann, David Henry Hwang, Elfriede Jelinek and Friedrich Schiller, among others.
