Global Challenges: Is There still an international order?

when 25 October 2016 - 27 October 2016
duration 1 week
credits 6 EC
fee EUR 250

The international contemporary panorama present opportunities totally unknown to previous generations, but also the challenges of global dimension which by their nature can only be tackled with a multinational approach. Not only the reactions of national states have been insufficient in facing many of the crises appeared in the last decade, but even forms of regional integration like the European Union are not enough in order to face threats such as international terrorism, drug trafficking and transnational crime.
This situation leads us to reflect on some classical concepts of politics and international law and possibly to develop new categories and criteria for analysis, in the hope of becoming able to prepare new tools of reaction. To this end, the Department of Political Science, with a wide participation of scholars and experts, both Italian and foreign, and in the light of the success of the Winter School "Eurasian Studies" of autumn 2015, is organizing a new event with large discussion and deepening on the major challenges of international security and the possible answers of the states and other subjects of international law. The course will be held in Italian and English with simultaneous translation.
