Development of Competency-based Pharmacy Education

when 17 July 2017 - 21 July 2017
language English
duration 1 week
fee EUR 800

Education and training of pharmacists requires the development of knowledge, skills and attitudes that prepare students for a professional role in healthcare. Recently a European Pharmacy Competences Framework (EPCF) was published, which can be used as a tool for redesigning or restructuring pharmacy curricula using the principles of competency-based education. Building a competency-based curriculum is, however, not an easy task.
This course is intended to assist pharmacy teachers and curriculum developers to become familiar with the principles of competency-based curriculum design and with the construction of active learning modules, which can be incorporated in their own curriculum. Special attention will be given to problem-based, project-based and enquiry-based learning and to incorporation of professional development of students.
All course instructors have at least a 10-year experience in developing innovative courses and curricula in the pharmaceutical field at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level. The course is organized in collaboration with the European Association of Faculties of Pharmacy (EAFP) and the Phar-QA consortium.
