Innovation Lab: User-Experience Innovation and Service Design
User-experience Innovation is a creative, holistic, multidisciplinary approach based on theory, insights, tools & techniques from both the design discipline as well as management and business administration. Services are of a growing economic importance in today's world. Service-Design is a design approach for the development of innovative services.
Although we are aiming at business and engineering students primarily, the set-up of this module may be quite different than what you would expect from a taught module – lectures with a written exam in the end. We have something else in mind… A learning lab!
Service Design is a practical and creative way of thinking and doing, one couldn’t learn from a textbook. Therefore, we learn by doing and explore different perspectives, in the meantime offering you academic insights. In this learning lab, you are invited to integrate your existing knowledge with new insights. You will be challenged to use both left and right brain. And above all: we hope to have lots of fun together by exploring the boundaries of User-Experience Innovation!
We are looking for students in Business or Engineering, who believe innovation is key and are curious to more creative approaches to development of services in the (near) future.
Our goal is to create an innovation experience for you with all of the pressures and demands of the real world. This course is intensely and deliberately experiential to develop the mind-set, reflexes, agility and resilience one needs in a dynamic world. You will receive intensive coaching from experienced coaches as you apply best practices for user-experienced innovation and service-design
To provide students with an understanding of a Service Design approach and the application of innovation and design related concepts to the services area.
On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
- Explain experience of services from a usersâ€™ perspective;
- Understand and apply a Service Design process;
- Use design related methods to develop innovative services;
- Propose coherent strategies for designing services in ways that bring truly radical improvements from a users perspective.
