Winter School on European Politics and Economy
Study Europe and the EU at one of Germany's few universities in the top "Excellent" class:
Come and join the Winter School on European Politics and Economics at the University of Tübingen!
ACADEMIC PROGRAM: You take two introductory courses "The European Union: Institutions, Politics, and History" and "Regional Economic Integration: The Case of the EU". Classes are small and individual mentoring is guaranteed at all times.
STUDY TRIPS: You will take a tour of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, visit the German Bundestag in Berlin and explore Germany's biggest metropolises Frankfurt. And you get to meet with European politicians and decision makers of European organisations.
GERMAN LANGUAGE & CULTURE: You will attend a German language course and an intercultural workshop. You will gain one of the key qualifications in an increasingly globalized world: intercultural competence.
BUDDY PROGRAM: Within the Buddy Program students of the University of Tübingen accompany the IES participants during their entire stay in Tübingen. This will allow IES participants to get to know German students, and experience student life first-hand.
LOCATION: Tübingen is the ideal location for this small and highly effective academic program: it is a picturesque, safe University town and with its romantic old town it offers multiple opportunities to experience German culture.

Course leader
The courses are taught by University of Tübingen faculty and experts dedicated to the study of Europe.
Target group
The Winter School is designed for undergraduate students from all over the world with any kind of academic background who wish to gain a basic knowledge of European politics and economy. Admission criteria are mainly based on academic achievements and motivation for participating in the program.
Participants must be at least 18 years old and and must have a very good command of English to be able to follow the academic courses and participate in discussions.
Course aim
The Winter School is open to undergraduate and graduate students who wish to better understand Europe and the European Union from various disciplinary perspectives. The program provides you with an understanding of historical, political, economic and cultural frameworks that have shaped modern Europe.
Credits info
6 EC
At the University of Tübingen 1 ECTS equals a workload of 30 hours. The workload comprises regular presence and active participation in the courses, private and independent study, preparation of projects and examinations (e.g. written test, oral presentation, essay). Participants of the Winter School who would like to receive transfer credits at their home university are strongly recommended to contact their Academic Advisor and ask for credit and grade approval.
Fee info
EUR 2000: The program fee includes all academic courses, an intercultural workshop, a German language course, course materials, a 3-day stay at a seminar house (full board), 1-day study trips to Strasbourg and Frankfurt, 3-day study trip to Berlin (train ride, accommodation, guided tours, entrance fees), accommodation, social activities, a public transportation ticket for use within Tübingen, welcome and farewell party.
The program fee does not include the following expenses:
- Visa fee
- Flight & travel to/from Tübingen
- Health insurance
- Meals & beverages
- Some of the optional social activities
- Leisure activities
Scholarships
Within the Winter School financial support is available based on academic achievement and financial need.
