This course will focus on how people working in health and social care, and related areas can effectively support individuals and communities affected by homelessness and substance
misuse.
Emphasis will be placed on the importance of multi-disciplinary working, and how “joined-up” approaches between different professionals can deliver better outcomes for these vulnerable
groups.
Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate their new skills and knowledge in a group presentation at the end of the course.
This course will cover the following:
1. Introduction to multi-disciplinary working and key principles
2. Reflection and discussion on key issues which may lead to homelessness and substance misuse
3. Opportunities for students to collaborate and complete tasks in smaller groups
4. Visits to services in Nottingham providing support to people experiencing homelessness and / or substance misuse
5. Guest speakers who have experience and expertise in this field
6. Opportunities to speak with people who have lived experience of homelessness and / or substance misuse.

This course is perfect for students on a related degree who have an interest in this area. Prior knowledge on the specific topics would be useful but not essential.
After studying on this course you should be able to:
1. Understand the importance of multi-disciplinary working in the caring occupations.
2. Understand key issues which can lead to homelessness and substance misuse.
3. Demonstrate skills needed in effective multi-disciplinary working, such as communication, collaboration, and accountability.
4. Demonstrate understanding of key issues which can lead to homelessness and substance misuse, and awareness of strategies that can be employed to address these.

Fee
484 GBP, Accommodation for two-weeks in our on-campus student halls. All rooms are single with ensuite facilities and shared kitchen and living spaces. Halls are self-catered and kitchen and bedding packs will be provided. Our accommodation is right in the heart of the city and so there are lots of food shops, cafes, restaurants, bars and takeaways just a short walk away.
