This course serves as an immersive introduction to the realm of multimodal anthropology, focusing on the practical application of audio-visual and diverse multimodal methodologies within the sphere of social science research.
With a hands-on approach, students will learn how to incorporate multimodal elements into their research projects. The course encourages participants to think beyond the usual boundaries of social sciences and reflect critically on how knowledge is produced. It also teaches students to effectively communicate research findings using various media.
Covering a range of multimedia tools, the course introduces students to multimodal anthropology through film, photography, sound, and digital/social media. By engaging with relevant literature, participants will deepen their understanding and actively contribute to discussions about multimodal representations.
The course places a strong emphasis on practical experience. Participants will have the chance to conduct their own fieldwork projects, applying the concepts they've learned in real-life situations. This hands-on approach not only solidifies their understanding but also empowers them to create a meaningful multimodal anthropology project that reflects their insights into specific cultures or societal aspects in a grounded manner.
