About 4.2 million new cases and 1.9 million deaths every year make cancer one of the most frequent causes of mortality and morbidity in Europe. In Denmark, 43,000 people were diagnosed with cancer in 2020 and numbers are increasing every year. The number of persons living with or after cancer is increasing as well. According to the National Coalition of Cancer Survivorship (NCCS), cancer survivorship is defined as a process that begins at the moment of diagnosis and continues through the trajectory of life.
The course ‘Oncology and Public Health’ focuses on oncology from a public health perspective. Plenary lectures of this course will be provided by an expert in psychosocial oncology, and coordinator (since 2011) of the 2-months course ‘Oncology and Public Health’ in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. In this 2,5-weeks version of that course, lectures will be provided that focus on medical aspects of cancer, public health issues related to cancer, psycho oncology, but also specific topics such as return to work after cancer and palliative care. Preventive strategies and the effectiveness of various interventions aiming to reduce long-term consequences of cancer diagnosis and treatment, and to improve the quality of life of cancer survivors will be discussed as well.
