About

The course takes a perspective on higher education, international relations, law and public policy and combines theory with case studies and active teamwork. This year's team of international scholars and policymakers gives special attention to the themes of global engagement, knowledge equity, and decolonization. The course is significant for professionals, students and researchers who want to reflect critically on their research and for policymakers involved in university (re)strategies.

Given global issues, university teaching and research also requires non-western perspectives on collaborating across borders. This involves both the knowledge of diverse contexts and their interconnectedness, and the social responsibility which universities take to share our knowledge with the world around us. Here too, is a relationship to decolonisation and internationalization at home.

To strengthen global engagement within research and education, equal, reciprocal collaborations with partners and networks in low and middle income countries, especially in the Global South, have to be established and deepened. In this course we initially mainly focus on Africa and to some extent on Latin America (especially Suriname).

The course is indispensable for higher education practitioners and researchers who want to reflect critically on their work and for policymakers involved in university (re)strategies. The dialogue between the different actors, coming from a wide range of countries, has proved very valuable in previous versions of this course.
