Ever wanted to dive deeply into the diverse city of Amsterdam? This course enables you to discover Amsterdam, past and present, in the context of other European cities.

Special attention will be paid to present-day challenges that an internationally oriented, super-diverse metropolitan area must face in the fields of education, diversity and inclusion. You will go on various field trips in Amsterdam and visit cultural hotspots. Furthermore, you will discuss the Dutch approach of multicultural education and educational innovations. At the same time, you will increase your vocabulary, develop your speaking and writing skills, and build your own confidence level in English. You will meet new people and learn about your own identity in a vibrant multi-cultural urban space. Join us for this educational and fun summer course!

Target group

This summer school course is aimed primarily at higher-year students with a good command of the English language (B2-minimum level)

Course aim

This course will enable you to have an historical overview of the development of Amsterdam and to know how Amsterdam is represented in art, film and literature. In addition you will be able to organise and deliver a professional urban tour and be able to transfer your knowledge and skills to other (urban) sites. You will also learn and be able to discuss and write about your thoughts and ideas with a higher degree of confidence in English. lastly, this course aims to enable you to present yourself and your own identity within the city context in a professional and organised fashion.
