A Home's Story - Theoretical and Practical Introduction into Buildings Archaeology in Europe
This course provides an intensive introduction into multidisciplinary approaches in European buildings archaeology. Houses have been a central source for archaeological, anthropological and historical research. The course consists of a theoretical part with lectures providing knowledge on building terminology, cultural heritage in theory and legislative context, an introduction into recording methods with practical exercises. The second, practical oriented part, will train measurement and documentation techniques as a fieldwork exercise. We will work with central source types (written and pictorial sources) and apply their evidence to selected buildings. A key part is a week of fieldwork measuring up a building close to Aarhus as group work. We will collect and discuss all available data in order to write the history and biography of this very building and discuss approaches for its future use and mittigation.
