duration 1 week

You will get to know the Czech language, but also the Ostrava region, whose culture and history was shaped by the influence of different nationalities (Czech, German, Polish, Jewish). In addition to the multicultural environment, Ostrava was fundamentally influenced by the industrial past. Ostrava used to be referred to as the steel heart of the republic, where black coal was mined, and steel was produced. However, today's Ostrava is no longer black, but colourful and dynamic. Former industrial buildings have been transformed into a cultural centre with a charming atmosphere. Today, Ostrava is above all a city of culture, where there is a rich literary and theatrical life and where the biggest music festival in the Czech Republic, Colors of Ostrava, takes place. The summer school is organized by the Czech Language Department of the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ostrava.
