Sports Engineering
During this course every day a different sport is put into an engineering perspective. Every day a different sport is addressed. The daily program consists of a theoretical lecture (2 hours) followed by a practical demonstration (2 h hours). Each afternoon the students work on a reflection of the gained knowledge (2 hours) and have time to work on their final assignment (2 hours). The daily reflections are bundled in a journal.
Examples of daily topics are trampoline physics, karate mechanics, bicycle design and bobsleigh dynamics. During the theoretical lectures these topics are treated in detail from an engineering perspective. In the practical demonstrations the students can try out or watch the sport, or a related experiment is done.
After the course the student can identify concepts relevant to engineering in new situations. They will apply their knowledge to a sport of their own choosing in a final assignment.
