Moonshot
blended courseThis Visiting School is a call for the same level of focused, collaborative ambition and operation of the space industry to be explored within the field of architecture. Always last to embrace innovation, the built environment is stuck in the every-day, top-down problem solving – depending on clients as true instigators of change. But what if we were to envision the design before this is even required? In this visiting school we offer an incubator structure, one to envision, test and discuss new ideas, using space as a case-study on idea development rather than a fixed site.
Part 1: London, UK/ Online
Part 2: Houston, USA
Course leader
Levent Ozruh and Sara Martinez Zamora
Target group
The programme is open to current architecture, design students, PhD candidates and young professionals. Unit 1 also welcomes students from other disciplines that are relatable to architecture including but not limited to sociology, anthropology, history, applied & pure science, engineering.
UNIT 1
Software Requirements: Adobe Creative Suite (Unit 1). Students will not require a subscription to AI imaginary creator software
UNITS 2&3
Software Requirements: Rhino 3D, Unreal Engine, HoudiniFX
Course aim
Part 1 will introduce students to critical Anthropological theory on the socio-cultural dynamics of designing for the built environment and using artificial intelligence tools, with an emphasis on designing for the radical context of Earth’s moon. We will critically examine and unpack the biases, assumptions, and ‘playbooks’ through which AI software is used and produces images. We will interrogate algorithmic technologies from a social science perspective, thinking through how one locates the ethics, morals and responsibilities for the use and outputs of AI based design in the context of future living on the moon.
