The course aims to provide the student with an understanding of how basic finance concepts are applied in real-life situations and the implications of an operating decision on the different aspects of a company’s financial performance.

This course builds on basic financial management concepts and focuses primarily on the application of those concepts in a setting where students need to learn the impact of the decisions on the short-term as well as long-term financial performance of a given business organization. Key decisions considered in this course primarily revolve around the operating and financial decisions that can turn into strategic and value-creating decisions.

The course makes the students learn that no business decision is taken in isolation and what is important is to learn the interaction between various sub-units of a business organization and how this interaction affects the profitability and cash flow position of the organization as a whole.

It should be noted that this is not a course on ‘Corporate Finance’, rather it is an introduction to fundamental financial management concepts and their application in real-life business situations. Simulations and cases will be the primary teaching tool for this course.
