An academic programme offers an interdisciplinary knowledge in the fields of contemporary and historical architecture, urban planning, history of architecture and urban geography.
A significant part of the program focuses on experimental procedures in the mediation of knowledge and creation of architectural solutions. Through lectures, presentations, symposia and walking tours we discover the past, the present and future development of architecture in Ostrava and nerby region. Program provides exploring its nature, wilderness, urban life and its future development. To get a vivid sense of the architecture and the city itself, the summer school takes field trips to view interesting places and buildings, we work on selected topics of in situ research and design workshops.

Target group

The summer school programme complements the university education. Particularly recommended for students in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture and urban planning, history of architecture and urban history, municipal development and geography. Another target group is professionals who want to go beyond the limits of their narrow specialization and people interested on architecture in their programme of life-long education. Program is also open for high school students.

Maximum capacity of the course is 18 participants.

Course aim

This year we are going to explore housing in post-industrial region and various local aspects of living in environment affected by decades of intensive industrial utilization. Participants will meet areas of workers‘colonies, post-war residential districts and newly developing zones.
The summer school of architecture offers 5 working days of creative experience filled with a team workshop, individual mini workshops, urban games in the streets of Ostrava, lectures, discussions, site visits and city research.

Credits info

2 EC
All students who successfully finish the course programme receive a certificate evaluated by 2 ECTS credits.

Fee info

EUR 30: University teaching programme is free for participants. 30 EU fee is payed to cover the administration costs and is not refundable. Travel costs, food and accomodation during the course is not included.
