In this Summer School, you explore the energy efficiency of buildings on a micro-level, and consider districts on a macro-level. You learn about building performance simulation and district supply systems.

A district from the living lab project SmartQuart serves as a use case. SmartQuarts core technological element is the exchange of energy and intelligent networking within and between the smart districts.

This course is highly interactive and contain a lot of intensive and fun teamwork. Get an insight into Sustainable Buildings and Green Cities with the following hands-on topics:

Course leader

The Short course is jointly conducted by the e3D, EBC and the iPE. All three Institutes are part of the RWTH University and are integrated in the SmartQuart Project which is the center of this Summer School.

Target group

Every year we welcome students from all over the world. You can become part of our international student community if you:

- are at least 18 years old
- in your Bachelor's, Master's, in between or recently graduated
- are proficient in the English language

Desirable is basic understanding of power generation and power systems, electrochemical systems or electricity systems and its components.

Please note: Interested students should be studying electrical engineering and show strong interests in sustainable technology, especially in the context of energy and buildings. Basic skills in any discipline with a strong focus on energy are beneficial.

No English certificate is required. Our courses are all in English and therefore a proficient knowledge of English is important.

Course aim

- Come up with elaborate calculations for adequate simulations
- Realize a project work in a computer laboratory
- Try, test, and acquire methods in mechanical engineering to understand automation processes
- Learn about current research challenges during a lab tour
- Upgrade your skill set for the interdisciplinary engineering world
