Photography, from Catwalks to Sidewalks
On this course you will explore contemporary fashion photography and the aesthetic qualities of photographing urban locations and buildings.
you will start by experiencing the different roles that make a fashion shoot happen - assistant, producer, digital operator and client. You will work in the photography studio and on location, learning how to direct a model and source sets, props and backdrops.
You will develop an understanding of contemporary fashion photography and its context in modern society, as well as learn the techniques of using flash equipment, LED lighting and industry-standard digital equipment.
You will finish this part of the course with a portfolio of images, as well as the knowledge and experience to plan a fashion shoot.
The course will then move on to the skills needed to capture the identity of a place through its abstract shapes, colours and textures.Nottingham has a wealth of contemporary and historic buildings to explore through the lens of your camera. You will explore urban spaces old and new, inside and out, as well as green spaces where architecture and nature meet. You will investigate how people interact with the urban environment, and how to capture a moment in time.
You should have completed at least one year of undergraduate studies, have some experience of digital photography and be able to use your camera in manual mode.
By the end of this course, you will have improved your understanding of digital photography and be able to use the manual settings of your camera with confidence. You will also have an appreciation of the work by professional photographers.
In a final presentation, you will show a portfolio of unique fashion and architectural images - and the knowledge of how to plan a shoot on location.
