This introductory undergraduate module offers a comprehensive exploration into the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), specifically designed for students with diverse backgrounds.

Spanning a period of three weeks, participants will be introduced to fundamental AI concepts and techniques, ranging from basic machine learning principles to advanced neural networks and ethical considerations.

A mix of interactive lectures, hands-on coding exercises, and practical case studies will give you both a theoretical understanding of AI and key practical skills in data pre-processing and model implementation.

Course aim

This module aims to:

- Introduce you to the foundational principles of AI in a comprehensive yet accessible way, with consideration of coding experience and mathematical ability.
- Familiarise you with essential concepts in supervised learning, unsupervised learning, reinforcement learning, deep learning, computer vision and natural language processing.
- Enable you to understand, select and critically evaluate a wide range of AI techniques through interactive lectures, hands‑on coding exercises and practical case studies.
- Equip you with the knowledge and skills to engage with AI technology, recognise the related ethical challenges and limitations and appreciate its impact on various industries.
- Promote development of practical skills in data pre‑processing, visualisation and AI model implementation and evaluation in Python through hands-on exploration of pre-written code.
