This module introduces students to a structured approach to clinical assessment and the key skills required to become a doctor or other health professional involved in patient care. It guides students through a methodical approach to history taking, examination, and the selection and interpretation of common investigations, while also developing leadership and problem-solving abilities.
You will explore the ethical and legal frameworks governing medical practice and understand their relevance to everyday clinical work. The module also focuses on professionalism, patient safety and effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues. Teaching is interactive and includes practical skills sessions, group problem-solving and simulated role play.

Developing problem-solving skills to address clinical challenges
Week two
Explore social determinants of health and the role they play in patient care
Explore investigations and how these can assist with patient assessments and creating management plans
Reflect on your own experiences and discuss how these impact patient care
Week three
Assess and manage clinical cases of increasing complexity
