“B.I.S.A. «La Biagiola» International School of Archaeology – Winter 2026” is a two-week programme offering students an immersive introduction to Etruscan, Roman, and Medieval archaeology. Combining traditional fieldwork with advanced technologies such as GIS, photogrammetry, SLAM, and 3D modelling, the course equips participants with both practical skills and digital expertise.
Students will work alongside professional archaeologists in the excavation of a medieval castle and contribute to the conservation of two remarkable sites: an Etruscan rock-cut necropolis and a Roman villa complex. The programme also includes training in field survey pXRF analysis, and GPR, in collaboration with the Cultural Heritage Office of Tuscany.
Open to students of archaeology, history, anthropology, cultural heritage, art history, tourism, and related disciplines, the School offers not only rigorous academic training but also the opportunity to experience Tuscany’s outstanding cultural and natural heritage
Luca Mario Nejrotti PhD
The B.I.S.A. International School of Archaeology is designed primarily for undergraduate and postgraduate students in archaeology, history, art history, anthropology, and museology. Preference is given to those with previous experience in excavation methods, although motivated beginners are also welcome and will receive dedicated introductory training. Each session admits a maximum of six participants, fostering a dynamic and international learning environment where students collaborate closely with professional archaeologists and peers from around the world
The programme aims to combine advanced academic training with immersive fieldwork, equipping students with the methodological skills and technological expertise required in contemporary archaeology. Through excavation, survey, digital documentation, and laboratory analysis, participants will engage with case studies ranging from Etruscan necropolises to medieval castles. By integrating lectures, hands-on activities, and cultural excursions, the School provides both a robust foundation in archaeological practice and a transformative personal experience within the Tuscan landscape.
Upon successful completion of the course, each student is awarded a signed certificate detailing the activities undertaken, enabling them to request academic credit at their home institution. Each two-week session corresponds to approximately 3–4 ECTS credits, subject to recognition by the student’s home university
