About

This course provides an integrated introduction to project management methods and lean principles essential for operating modern corporate systems in the context of Industry 4.0. Students will explore key project management competencies, including project definition, lifecycle design, time planning, communication strategies, and conflict management in multidisciplinary teams. The course also develops practical skills in applying foundational lean tools such as 5S, SMED, and standardized work procedures to increase efficiency and stability in digitalized production environments. Through real-world examples and practice-oriented tasks, participants learn how project methods and lean techniques jointly support operational excellence

Course aim

This course builds on ELTE’s engineering and informatics expertise to introduce the modern methodological foundations of project management and lean thinking, with a special focus on the challenges of Industrial digitalization environments. Its interdisciplinary nature is strengthened by the collaboration between the the Faculty of Informatics Savaria Institute of Technology (Szombathely) and the Institute of Scomputer Sceince, allowing students to integrate engineering, IT, and management perspectives. The topic is highly relevant today due to the increasing complexity of digitalized corporate systems, the rising importance of lean efficiency tools, and the rapid expansion of data driven project environments. The course applies innovative teaching methods through a partially flipped classroom approach with full Moodle LMS support, quizzes, interactive digital content, and narrated Panopto videos . Classroom sessions follow a training oriented format where each topic is accompanied by situational or gamified exercises, enabling students to develop practical competencies through real world project and lean challenges
