This module examines the biological, psychological, and social factors that influence mental health and mental health conditions. The module provides foundational knowledge of common mental health conditions, covering symptoms, underlying causes, and evidence-based treatments. In addition, students will be introduced to experimental methods in psychology and neuroscience to study mental health and better understand the basis of mental health conditions. Students will learn about the basics of neuroscientific methods, from research using animal models to neuroimaging. In workshops, students will gain hands-on experience in analysing and interpreting data of various methods (animal work, EEG, functional magnetic resonance imaging). A fieldtrip exploring the history of mental health research and treatment in London is included as part of the summer school

This module aims to provide an overview of our current understanding of the psychological and neuroscientific basis of mental health and mental health conditions. It will develop the knowledge and demonstrate experimental methods for those with interest in mental health or those who planning to further their studies in mental health and cognitive neuroscience

2750 GBP, The Queen Mary Summer School costs: £2,750 per session. We are offering a 10% early bird discount for those who apply before 31 March 2026. Accommodation On campus accommodation will cost approximately £1074 per session.
