In today's data-saturated world, where visualizations are ubiquitous across all sectors, the ability to communicate with clarity is vital. The course introduces the principles and practice of data visualisation, equipping students with the skills to create clear, effective, and meaningful visual representations of data designed for insights and impact. It goes beyond a simple list of design rules, offering a deeper understanding of the concepts, reasoning and perceptual principles that guide good visualisation practices. The course trains students to think as designers, analysts, and communicators, developing the ability to create visualizations that are not only analytically sound but also persuasive and tailored to their audience.

Target group

Master students (and Bachelor students in their final year) as well as recent graduates and young professionals who wish to acquire new knowledge in specific areas

Course aim

Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
- Critically evaluate visualizations for their ability to generate clear insight and achieve their intended impact.
- Apply core principles of perception and design to build appropriate visualizations that reveal data insights.
- Construct and present compelling data stories that transform complex data into actionable narratives, communicating findings effectively to drive impact and influence decisions.
