The central theme of the course is the (photographic) portrait and the gesture of giving it back. We explore the possibilities of triggering and deepening encounters with other people through images, and thus great importance is attached to the moment of printing, returning, or exchanging.
The class is aimed at photographers, filmmakers, and visual artists who place a strong focus on people and social issues in their artistic or documentary work, or who would like to do so in the future. The primary medium of the course is photography, but the “image” is understood in a broader sense and also encompasses drawing, painting, sculpture, and film.
In addition to theoretical input, group discussions, and individual feedback, there is a practical component in which new, collaborative works are produced for the final exhibition on the course premises.
