The International Negotiation and Mediation – Summer Program 2026

About

The International Negotiation and Mediation - Summer Program 2026 is an intensive international program developed by the Porto Faculty of Law of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in partnership with ICFML (Institute for the Certification and Training of Lusophone Mediators).

Taking place from 10 to 16 July 2026, in Porto and online, the program offers a distinctive opportunity to develop practical skills in negotiation, mediation and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) within an increasingly complex and global professional environment.

Designed for participants seeking more than a traditional summer course, it combines high-quality teaching, practical experience, and an international learning setting. Throughout the week, participants will engage with real-world negotiation and mediation scenarios, learn from experienced academics and professionals, and strengthen skills that are increasingly relevant across legal and international contexts.

The program is jointly organized by the Porto Faculty of Law, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, and ICFML – Institute for Certification and Training of Lusophone Mediators.

Target group

The program is designed for law students and young professionals seeking to develop practical skills in negotiation and mediation in order to complement their academic training or professional path.

It is also particularly suitable for graduate and postgraduate students in Law, Business, International Relations and related fields in which negotiation and mediation are increasingly important competencies.

The Summer Program welcomes early-career legal practitioners, diplomats and policymakers who wish to strengthen their ability to navigate complex disputes in international and cross-cultural environments, as well as aspiring mediators and ADR practitioners looking to build a solid foundation, gain international perspectives and engage with leading experts in the field.

Course aim

The program aims to provide participants with a strong and practical foundation in negotiation, mediation, and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), with a particular focus on the demands of today’s international and multicultural environment.

Its main objectives are to:

• develop practical skills in negotiation and mediation
• strengthen the ability to manage conflict and make decisions in complex settings
• provide exposure to current debates and professional practices in ADR
• bridge academic knowledge and real-world application through simulations and interactive learning
• prepare participants to operate more effectively in legal, institutional, and cross-cultural contexts
