Prosthetics Effects for Stage and Screen

when 30 July 2012 - 10 August 2012
duration 2 weeks
fee GBP 895

Throughout this intensive and highly practical summer school you will be inspired, challenged and encouraged by experienced practitioner and teacher, Martin Mallorie.

You will be based at our industry-standard workshop and design facilities and have at your disposal both traditional and cutting edge
materials and tools.

The short course begins with an introduction to prosthetics including casting and sculpting techniques, and simple prosthetic techniques in latex and silicone.

Students will have the opportunity to produce their own special effect prosthetics suitable for use on stage and for screen. At one point in the summer school you will have an opportunity to work with film professionals and explore and experiment with the difference between creating prosthetics for stage and also for screen.

You will have the opportunity to work with both stage and film professionals and to explore and experiment with the unique and specific requirements of prosthetics effects for live and
mediated performance.

The course will build on students’ basic skills and engage you in a higher level of prosthetics design and realisation. This element of the course addresses more advanced processes, principally glass fibre and rubber moulds, silicone appliances, detail sculpting and final painting, blending and application.

Good health and safety in practice will also be covered as an important element of the short course.

The summer school will provide a fun, supportive and challenging environment in which all participants from beginners to advanced can explore and learn.

The summer school will conclude with a live exhibition of the work you have created while in attendance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
